2019 Breeding Recap

Value Plus working to make his mark in British Columbia

They say you can really tell the quality of a stallion's progeny after the third year at stud. Value Plus, of course, already had runners on the track when we first stood him in 2017. But 2018 was the watershed year for him, as his first British Columbia-bred crop was foaled. Everything seemed to fall into place because 2018 was also a breakout year for Value Plus, as he sired his first G1 stakes winner, Long On Value. Long On Value won that G1 race (Highlander Stakes) right here in Canada (Woodbine), to make the victory that much sweeter.

So how could 2019 be an even better year for our stallion by the great Unbridled's Song?

Value Plus - The Best Son of Unbridled's Song in Canada

His 2018 BC-Bred Crop is Outstanding

 This year we've had the opportunity to watch his first BC-bred crop grow into exceptional yearlings. The yearlings are so well built; they have strong, correct legs, and powerful shoulders and hindquarters. As yearlings, they start to show signs of the kinds of horses they will become.

    We're just thrilled with two colts in particular; 'Phil' and 'Kyle.' These colts are showing size, excellent bone, and so much spirit! Value Plus was a G1 performer, who has now sired a G1 stakes winner; and these yearling colts really represent him well.

His 2019 BC-Bred Crop is Sensational

 On to this year's crop: we've been so fortunate these past few years; we've had several breeders who bred to Value Plus last year, return to him again for 2019. They were pleased with their foals and wanted to come back to the stallion again. That's the best compliment you can get in this business. The quality of his book has gotten stronger, with several stakes winners and BC champion mares.

 Value Plus is a stallion that has earned the better mares he’s now receiving; his on the track record is impressive:

· Stakes winner (Artax H.)

· Track record setter for 7 furlongs at Gulfstream;

· 2nd in G1 Futurity at Belmont;

· Just missed winning the G1 Florida Derby, by ¾ length

He’s really stamping his foals with his power and athleticism; and best of all, good minds.

Value Plus’ Family Offers Exceptional Quality

  The quality that Value Plus is transmitting to his progeny not only comes from his great sire, Unbridled’s Song - Value Plus' family is also continuing to build its presence at the highest level. He is half brother to the dam of new G1 stakes winner (2019 Churchill Downs Humana Distaff S.), Mia Mischief. Value Plus' family is full of champions, quality stakes winners and high priced auction horses. His dam, Roll Over Baby, sold for $1,000,000 at the 2002 Keeneland January Sale. She won over $180,000, and was a multiple stakes winner. She produced 12 foals and 9 winners; one, Incriminate (full brother to Value Plus), sold at Keeneland September 2005 for $1,500,000. Another, Morocco, sold for a then-world record $2,000,0000 at Barretts Two Year Old Sale.

Excited for the Future

  This year Value Plus bred 21 mares, and 15 total live foals sired by Value Plus were foaled in British Columbia. Add to that the 2018 foals (5 reported), and Value Plus is building his impact here in BC. Next comes 2020, when the first Value Plus foals race. At that point, all the hard work and dreams will be put on the line. If his G1 stakes winner Long On Value is any indication, it may not be long before Value Plus has more exciting winners in Canada!
